The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct vision.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire message from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a sharper identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

The President

Background of the New Leader

The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary explains. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and tests that change every match. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can look forward to further news as development progresses.
